The Learning Center at UM-Helena is staffed with students who have finished the courses in which they tutor with A's and B's, come highly recommended by instructors for their content knowledge, and have good customer service skills. They receive training from the Director on an ongoing basis and must continue to maintain high academic standards. Applications for prospective tutors are available in the ACCESS Center.
Tutoring services are free to UM-Helena students in all programs and are designed to fit the individual needs of the students. Students are encouraged to make appointments with tutors to ensure they have the tutor they want to work with and to have a specific tutoring time. However, drop-ins are welcome as well.
Students may call the Learning Center at 444-2766 or the Director of the Learning Center at 444-6897 to schedule an appointment. Please also consult the Tutor Schedule to see what help is available at what hours of the day.
Tutors are available for fall and spring semesters only. Do you think you might make a good tutor? Call or drop in to see Cindy Yarberry, Director of the Learning Center, for more information. You may also talk to the supervisor of work study positions as well in the Financial Aid office.
